Héritier Bondongo Kabeya, universally known by his stage names Héritier Watanabe and Héritier Wata, is an acclaimed Congolese singer, songwriter, dancer, and bandleader. Born on August 29, 1982, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, he grew up surrounded by the rich musical traditions of the capital. He began singing at the young age of 10, developing a deep passion for Congolese Rhumba and traditional styles that would ultimately guide his path to stardom. Wata gained widespread recognition after joining Werrason’s legendary orchestra, Wenge Musica Maison Mère, in 2001. Over the course of nearly 15 years with the group, his golden voice and songwriting prowess helped shape some of the band's biggest hits, establishing him as an influential force in fifth-generation Congolese rumba. In 2015, he made the bold decision to embark on a solo career, signing a major deal with Obouo Music. He launched his debut studio album, Carrière d'honneur - Retirada, the following year to immense commercial success. Since then, he has continued to expand his global presence as the leader of his own Kinshasa-based orchestra, Team Wata, releasing major projects like the double-disc Tout simplement moi (Mi-ange mi-démon) and Chemin de la gloire, firmly cementing his position as a rumba powerhouse. 💿 Studio Albums.
