Ouray, CO - 2026

This trip to the beautiful San Juan mountains in Colorado held stunning views at every turn. We take many of the trails on the Alpine Loop, each unique and beautiful. Easy trails - big cost for mistakes. The weather in July was perfect. A dry winter meant we didn't have snow on the trails, but there was a raging fire in north county Ouray and several other areas in CO and UT. The day after we left there were monsoon rains that caused a lot of serious devastation to Ouray and other towns as far away as Beaver, as the rain rushed down the burnt mountainsides. This made our timing particularly lucky - or ordained. The Alpine Loop should be on any off-roader's bucket list.
