In this Week 6 PM lecture, we explore bottom-up assembly modeling while reviewing the part-modeling skills needed for CSWA assembly problems. Students will learn how separately modeled components are inserted into an assembly and constrained to create a complete mechanical system. The lecture also reviews component states, degrees of freedom, standard and advanced mates, SmartMates, and the workflow used to verify a CSWA assembly. Topics covered: • Bottom-up assembly structure and workflow • Modeling components from engineering drawings • Reviewing sketches, dimensions, relations, and features • Understanding the FeatureManager assembly tree • Component instances and configurations • Fixed and floating component states • Six degrees of freedom • Inserting and positioning components • Coincident and Concentric mates • Path, Linear Coupler, Distance Limit, and Angle Limit mates • SmartMates and Quick Mates • Rebuilding and evaluating an assembly • Material, mass properties, and center-of-mass checks • CSWA assembly problem-solving workflow CSWA assembly checklist: 1. Verify the required units 2. Define equations and global variables 3. Insert and fix the base component 4. Mate and fully constrain the assembly 5. Force rebuild with Ctrl+Q 6. Evaluate the required properties Official SOLIDWORKS Practice Problems Database: https://www.solidworks.com/solution/e... Students should pause the video as needed and complete the modeling steps alongside the demonstration. #SOLIDWORKS #CSWA #SOLIDWORKSTutorial #CADTutorial #BottomUpAssembly #AssemblyMates #SmartMates #MechanicalDesign #CADStudents
