The Ground-Line Hitch is a secure binding knot used to attach a rope to a post, spar, or rail. It is part of the snug hitch family of knots. A snug hitch being a hitch that has its working end passing under the first wrap of the rope around a rail or spar. The result, the more pressure applied to the standing end of the rope, the tighter the cinch is applied to the working end, which reduces the chances of the hitch coming undone. Overview and Uses • Security: It is more secure than a standard clove hitch and has less tendency to jam. • Tension: It applies tension to the working end from the first turn, making it hold fast immediately. • Common Names: Also known as the Picket-Line Hitch, or Bag/Miller's Knot.
