Ever had a boss who knew less than you—but still insisted on showing you the way? My grandfather answered with a poem about a camel, a donkey, and a very badly placed rope. In Episode 10 of Memory Stories, I share “Shotornameh,” a Persian fable my grandfather, educator and poet Seyyed Abdolhossein Hematyar Tabatabaei, put into verse. Decades later, its workplace humor still feels surprisingly familiar. Through illustrated scenes, family photographs, and a printed page of his poetry, this episode explores experience, dignity, and the frustration of following the wrong leader. 📖 The poem appears in Negin Sokhan, compiled by Abdolrafi Haghighat, Volume 1, page 361, under the title “The Foolish Boss.” The workplace and retirement story draws on a secondary account attributed to Khalil Rafahi’s Gardesh-e Ayyam. 💬 Have you ever felt like the camel in this story?
