THE SHAPE OF A TURN is a fictional modern bop album from Blue Hour Records, centered on the sound of a trombone-led jazz session standing at the turning point between bebop and early hard bop.
Built around the idea of transition, this imagined LP moves from tightly arranged three-horn modern jazz to a leaner one-horn quartet sound. The result is an album of sharp lines, dry swing, intimate ballads, elegant Latin accents, and fast, controlled bop language inspired by the sound world of the mid-1950s.
This is not a recreation of one historical record, but an original imaginary jazz album shaped by the spirit of early modern jazz LPs: concise writing, focused improvisation, and the atmosphere of a small studio session captured on tape.
