Lyrics
At the end of the hallway, where the cold winds crawl,
There’s a shadow with no shape moving over the wall.
Floorboards start to whisper, though the room is bare,
And a breath like winter brushes through my hair.
I lock every window, I bolt every door,
But the footsteps keep coming across the floor.
Who’s there in the dark when the lights burn bright?
Who’s stealing my sleep in the dead of night?
I hear him laughing, but there’s no one to see—
The ghost in the house, the invisible man, following me.
There’s a chair that keeps rocking with nobody near,
A glass lifts up slowly, then disappears.
The curtains swing open though the night is still,
And a cold hand knocks out a tune on the windowsill.
I call out his name, but the silence replies,
Then a voice from the closet says, “Open your eyes.”
Who’s there in the dark when the lights burn bright?
Who’s stealing my sleep in the dead of night?
I hear him laughing, but there’s no one to see—
The ghost in the house, the invisible man, following me.
Maybe he’s a secret the walls have kept,
Maybe he’s the reason the old house wept.
Maybe he’s been standing beside me all along—
A face without a face, humming my song.
Who’s there in the dark when the lights burn bright?
Who’s stealing my sleep in the dead of night?
I hear him laughing, and now I believe—
The ghost in the house, the invisible man, won’t let me leave.
The lights go out.
The floorboards creak.
A cold breath whispers,
“You can’t see me.”
