American 106, a Boeing 777-200 (N754AN) bound for London Heathrow with 149 people aboard. Delta 1943, a Boeing 737-900ER (N914DU) bound for Santo Domingo with 159 aboard. John F. Kennedy International Airport, 13 January 2023. 20:44:17 EST - Delta 1943 is cleared for takeoff on runway 4L. 20:44:33 - the takeoff roll begins. At the same time American 106 turns from taxiway B onto taxiway J - toward a runway it had not been cleared to cross. 20:44:42 - the tower's ASDE-X ground radar alerts. 20:44:48 - Kennedy Tower cancels the takeoff clearance. Delta 1943 rejects. Closest proximity: 1,038 feet (ASDE-X). 308 people on the two airplanes. No injuries. No damage to either aircraft. American 106 departed for London about half an hour later (wheels up 21:17:50 EST) and was told to call the tower when it returned. Delta 1943 taxied clear and went back to the gate.
