Ashland, VA Railfanning April 2026 Part 1 (ft. IDTX Charger on Amtrak P079)

Enjoy! 4-10-26 0:00): Amtrak P093 zooms out of Ashland with a Phase VII P42 in charge! P42DC 79 (0:38): CSX M409 SB. I wasn't planning to stay for another train, but I'm glad I did. Turns out my friend ‪@VArailfan89‬ was there on an overnight stay in Ashland, and I met a guy and his son from Maryland too. ES44AH 952 CM44AH 7028 (ex-AC4400CW 150) 4-11-26 (3:49): The next day, I returned to Ashland after work to see Joey, as I knew he'd still be there so I thought I'd hang out with him for a bit. CSX M415 rolls by with a YN2 AC4400CW as a mid-DPU. ES44AH 3115 ES40DC 5416 AC4400CW 119 (mid-DPU) ET44AH 3243 (mid-DPU) (10:02): Amtrak P087 arrives and departs Ashland. This train would be Joey's ride home. Speaking of which, I'm in this video around the 0:24 mark as the train departed:    • Amtrak 87 train ride: departing Ashland    ALC-42 375 (17:23): Amtrak P097 SB with a Phase VII baggage car. ALC-42 370 ALC-42 344 4-13-26 (18:30): CSX C378 passes over Cedar Lane in Elmont. It's hard to catch trains at this crossing because the driveway is private property, but I'm glad the timing here worked out well. ES44AH 810 CM44AH 7598 (DPU, ex-AC4400CW 593) ES44AH 966 (DPU) (21:01): CSX I031 returns South toward Florida after hauling fresh orange juice to quench the thirst of the Northeasterners. ES40DC 5399 ES40DC 5420 (22:50): Amtrak P080 passes by. ALC-42 326 (23:31): Amtrak P089 rolls by Ashland. P42DC 199 (24:26): Amtrak P079 rolls by with a Midwest Charger second out. It was on its way to the Siemens plant in Lexington, NC for an overhaul. ALC-42 372 IDTX SC-44 4619 (26:15): CSX I136 picks up speed as he rolls through town. They held him at North Ashland because there was no space for him in Acca. He also meets Amtrak P138, which arrives and departs. It turns out that as of today, (5-25) CSX 52 is one of only three double digit YN2 AC4400CWs still active. Better get them while you can! ES40DC 5295 AC4400CW 52 ET44AH 3404 Amtrak P138 P42DC 140 (34:41): Amtrak P091 passes by. ALC-42 356 ALC-42 330 (36:29): Workers test a replacement crossing gate beyond the station. (37:38): Amtrak P090 speeds by Hunton. P42DC 79 4-16-26 (38:17): Amtrak P092 passes through Ashland. Just shot one train on my way home from work that day.
