Everyone learned the same story: whips, chains, a hundred thousand slaves dying under a merciless pharaoh. It's in the movies. It's in the textbooks. It's almost completely wrong.
In the 1990s, archaeologists digging south of the Sphinx found something that broke that myth apart — not another tomb, but an entire city. Bakeries, breweries, a workers' cemetery, and skeletons that told a very different story: splinted fingers, a healed amputation, evidence of ancient brain surgery. You don't operate on a slave.
This is the real story of the people who built the Great Pyramid — Egyptian farmers, conscripted through a seasonal labor tax called "bak" while the Nile flooded their fields, organized into proud named crews, fed like kings, and left graffiti sealed inside the pyramid to prove, 4,500 years later, that they were the ones who built it.
📜 What you'll learn in this video:
• Why the "100,000 slaves" number came from a Greek tourist, not an eyewitness
• The Lost City discovery that rewrote pyramid history
• Merer's diary — the oldest handwritten document ever found
• The physics trick (proven in 2014) that made dragging multi-ton blocks easier
• What 4,500-year-old skeletons reveal about how workers were actually treated
• The graffiti hidden above the King's Chamber, found in 2025
