What happened to this mosquito swamp after 12 years?

Twelve years ago this was a mosquito swamp so thick you could hear the clouds of bugs. Today it's a lake full of life, and it started by cutting trees. In this first episode, Alan walks the land he's cared for over 30 years in North Idaho and shows how forest health and water are connected. Thinning thousands of trees opened the canopy so snow could reach the ground, soak in, and drain down to fill the lake. Now it holds trout, bass, catfish and bluegill that help keep the mosquitoes in check.
