In this video, we solve a conventional problem from ESE Mechanical Engineering (2020) on a Two-Row Velocity Compounded Impulse Turbine. Problem Statement: A two-row velocity compounded impulse wheel forms the first stage of a combination turbine. Given Data: Steam velocity at nozzle outlet (V₁) = 630 m/s Mean blade velocity (V_b) = 125 m/s Nozzle angle (α) = 16° Outlet angle, first row of moving blades (β₁) = 18° Outlet angle, fixed guide blades (β₂) = 22° Outlet angle, second row of moving blades (β₃) = 36° Steam flow rate (ṁ) = 2.6 kg/s Ratio of relative velocity at outlet to inlet = 0.84 (for all blades) Determine: (i) Velocity of whirl (Whirl velocity) (ii) Tangential thrust on the blades (iii) Axial thrust on the blades (iv) Power developed (v) Blade efficiency Concepts Covered: Two-Row Velocity Compounded Impulse Turbine Velocity Triangles for Moving Blades and Fixed Guide Blades Relative Velocity Ratio (V_r2/V_r1 = 0.84) Whirl Velocity and Flow Velocity Components Tangential Thrust: F_t = ṁ × (ΔV_w) Axial Thrust: F_a = ṁ × (ΔV_f) Power Developed: P = ṁ × V_b × (ΣV_w) Blade Efficiency: η_b = (2 × V_b × ΣV_w) / V₁² Work Done by Impulse Turbine Steam Turbine Performance Parameters Ideal for GATE, ESE, and university Steam Turbine / Power Plant Engineering courses. #VelocityCompoundedTurbine #ImpulseTurbine #TwoRowImpulseWheel #VelocityDiagram #BladeEfficiency #WhirlVelocity #TangentialThrust #AxialThrust #PowerDeveloped #SteamTurbine #ImpulseTurbine #PowerPlantEngineering #Thermodynamics #GATE #ESE #MechanicalEngineering #ConventionalProblem #SolvedProblems #TurbinePerformance #SteamTurbineProblem
