A new wreck on the southern Old 97

the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway had a hand in this new Rivermont book and cd, "music from the land of the sky, the 1925 Asheville sessions" BSW 1173... While playing it for the first time, I decided to try picking along on my c. 1925 mandolin with the 1925 recording of "the wreck on the Old 97." I don't think I'd ever attempted the tune in the key of C before. When the Kingston Trio did Charlie on the MTA to the same tune, they played it in A. I should look up where Vernon Dalhart pitched his million seller version and where more recent old-time string bands usually play it. I'm playing along in one take as an experiment. the recording is coming through the speakers of my MacBook and I'm recording on a Samsung smartphone. Rest assured, I do not attempt to sing the song at the same time. 😀 Bob Stepno , Oct 7 2026. Obviously I do not own the copyright to the original recording. I bought "Music from the land of the sky, the 1925 Asheville sessions" a lovely book and CD, at the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway
