Located in the Kailali district of Sudurpashchim Province, Garva Durbar is one of the most important historical heritages from Nepal's Rana era. Situated in Ward No. 4 of Chure Rural Municipality, this palace stands today as living proof of past governance, architecture, and social structure, although its current condition is extremely dilapidated. Those palaces reflected the power, opulence, and dominance of the ruling class. Garva Durbar is believed to have been built with the same purpose. Built between 1922 and 1927 AD (1979 to 1984 BS), this palace served as the administrative center of western Nepal at the time. Important tasks such as tax collection, judicial hearings, and the implementation of government decisions were operated from this very palace. Architecturally, Garva Durbar was highly attractive. The massive three-story structure featured over 80 windows and more than 50 doors. Built using bricks, lime, and strong timber, the building shows traces of European architectural influence. Its spacious courtyard, tall pillars, and large assembly halls reflected its grandeur. For that era, such a structure was considered rare in western Nepal. Garva Durbar is not just an old building; it is a symbol of Sudurpashchim’s history, culture, and political journey. If properly preserved and reconstructed, it could become a major attraction for regional tourism. Furthermore, it will provide the newer generation with an opportunity to understand their history.
