This TransPennine Route Upgrade update follows the railway from Horbury Bridge and Healey Mills through to Baker Viaduct, combining local railway history with the latest engineering progress, electrification works and the future fast-line alignment. The video begins with a brief look at the railway history around Horbury Bridge and Horbury Viaduct, once associated with the Midland Railway, before looking at the former Horbury Works site. Horbury Works later became part of Bombardier Transportation and played an important role in British railway manufacturing, including the construction and assembly of Voyager and Super Voyager trains. The drone then moves over Healey Mills Marshalling Yard, where the video looks at the history of the extensive sidings from their development in the 1960s through to their decline as the coal industry contracted. The TransPennine Route Upgrade is now bringing a new purpose to the site. Six new sidings are being created at Healey Mills, allowing the yard to operate as a major logistics hub for the TransPennine Route Upgrade and providing space for materials, engineering trains and resources required across the main route. The video then looks at the latest electrification progress, including sections that have already been wired, areas currently being prepared for overhead line equipment and the remaining works required as the project continues east and west. Attention also turns to the remaining Transport and Works Act Order approvals, and when further sections of the route may be able to move into full construction. At Fall Lane, drone footage shows continuing ground works and embankment preparation for the new railway alignment. From here, the flight continues towards Baker Viaduct, where another major milestone has been reached. The large crane previously used during construction has now left the site, and the precast concrete deck units are in position across the structure. The update also looks at how the future railway will pass through the Ravensthorpe grade separation. The new alignment will separate fast and slow services, with new embankments and cuttings allowing the future fast lines to pass through the grade-separated layout while the existing slow lines are realigned. The Wakefield lines are also being incorporated into the redesigned junction, creating a significantly different railway layout through the Ravensthorpe and Mirfield area. This video combines railway history with the latest engineering progress to show how the TransPennine Route Upgrade is transforming the corridor from Healey Mills to Ravensthorpe and Baker Viaduct. On Track With Tim continues to document the TransPennine Route Upgrade between Manchester and York, including Huddersfield, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Healey Mills, Baker Viaduct, electrification, new fast lines, grade separation, bridges and major railway engineering works.
