Complete Granulation Equipment Line for Pharmaceutical OSD Manufacturing
In pharmaceutical OSD manufacturing, granulation is a crucial step in forming granules, which help improve the flow properties of powder and its compressibility for tablet formation. A complete Wet granulation line can vary depending on the User’s requirement but typically consists of several key pieces of equipment.
Powder Handling and Preparation
Before granulation begins, raw materials such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients need to be processed and prepared. This involves sifting and mixing powders to ensure uniform distribution of all ingredients. Key equipment includes:
• Vibratory sifters These are capable of sifting all the raw materials to remove any unwanted foreign matter or break the lumps in to a smooth powder for further mixing and processing.
• High-Shear Mixers: Also known as Rapid Mixer Granulators (RMG) these mixers combine powders efficiently and can also be used to add binding solutions during wet granulation. This machine is equipped with a high-speed impeller that mixes the powder with the binder solution, forming wet granules. A chopper may also be used to break down larger lumps. They create uniform blends and ensure even distribution of the binder within the powder. SAAN ‘s Uniquely designed RMG comes with a specially designed Impeller that produces the ideal tip velocity and torque to produce ideal wet granule consistency for further processing. The equipment comes along with accessories such as Binder Paste Vessels and paste conveying systems that offer untouched fully automatic process capability that is so crucial to pharmaceutical processing.
• Wet Co-mill This equipment is attached to the RMG that coveys the wet mass produced in the RMG to the next stage of Drying while reducing big sized lumps in to evenly sized wet mass suitable for drying. The conveying through the wet co-mill is done by vacuum transfer directly in the Fluid Bed Drier (FBD)
• Fluid Bed Dryer SAAN’s FBD comes with all features comparable with the best in the business of Fluid Bed Processors and Dryers. The whole equipment is made to 2 bar shock proof global standards. Our Driers are also provided with top spray attachments to enable Top Spray Granulation whenever required. Associated equipment includes Dry / Wet Scrubbers, Silencers, sophistication levels in Air Handling Units for Humidity Controls, face and Bypass system for accurate temperature controls, Filtration and other controls, including Micro processors and inbuilt SCADA system for ease of operations.
• Dry Co-mill / Multi-Mill The output from the FBD is further reduced in particle size by passing through a Multi-Mill before being processed in Blenders
• Blending
Once the granules have been formed and sized, they are mixed with other excipients like lubricants, disintegrants, or glidants before the final tableting step. Key equipment includes:
• SAAN OGB Blenders: This equipment blends the final granule batch to ensure uniformity before it moves to the compression stage. SAAN’S OGB is a tall and undisputed leader in the manufacturing of high-quality Octagonal Blenders for the past two decades. The line also consists of other types of blenders like Cage Blenders / V Blenders. SAAN is well known for its capability to consistently manufacture blenders of sizes ranging up to 15 KL capacities
Granule Transfer Systems
After blending, granules need to be transferred to the next stage of the manufacturing line, which is usually tableting. Key equipment includes:
• Vacuum Conveyors: These conveyors move granules without contamination or material loss, maintaining the product's integrity.
• Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs): These containers are used for holding and transporting granules between processing stages in bulk.
Process Control Systems
To ensure high product quality and consistency, modern granulation lines are equipped with Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and automation systems. These include:
• Granulation Monitoring Systems: These systems use sensors and real-time data analysis to monitor parameters like moisture content, particle size, and temperature during granulation.
Conclusion :
A complete granulation equipment line for pharmaceutical OSD manufacturing is designed by SAAN to optimize product quality, process efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The line-up typically involves a combination of preparation, granulation, drying, sizing, and blending equipment, ensuring consistency and reliability across each stage, and with automation to improve process control.
