I Have What I Need // Counting Sheep

What does it really mean to say, "The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need"? How can we trust God's provision when life feels overwhelming, our circumstances are uncertain, or we find ourselves longing for something more? In the opening message of our new Counting Sheep series, we begin walking through Psalm 23, exploring what it means to live under the care and guidance of the Good Shepherd. In a world filled with anxiety, comparison, and constant pressure to have more, David's words invite us into a different way of living, one rooted in trust, contentment, and the presence of God. Through Psalm 23:1 and the story of the Israelites in the wilderness, we're reminded how easily we confuse our wants with our needs. Even after experiencing God's miraculous provision, the Israelites struggled to trust that He would continue to care for them. Their story challenges us to examine our own hearts and recognize the difference between pursuing what we desire and trusting what God knows we truly need. But trusting God's provision doesn't mean pretending that hardship, suffering, or genuine needs don't exist. Even in seasons of loss, uncertainty, and disappointment, we can bring our needs honestly before God while holding onto the promise that He will never abandon us. Ultimately, Psalm 23 invites us to discover that contentment isn't found in having everything we want, but in knowing the Shepherd who walks with us through every season.
