Deepening institutional understanding of infrastructure as an asset class is fundamental to strengthening how transactions are structured, assessed, and financed within the domestic capital market, with greater execution efficiency supporting shorter time to financial close and enabling the pace of capital deployment required to address the infrastructure gap. As the asset class evolves, greater alignment between issuers, guarantors and institutional investors, particularly around credit quality, risk allocation, and return expectations, will be critical to enabling consistent participation at scale.
See highlights from our Knowledge Exchange Session on Unlocking Infrastructure Investment through Credit Enhancement: The Role of Guarantees in Mobilising Institutional Capital, where we engaged asset and fund managers alongside our Risk Sharing partner, ATIDI - African Trade & Investment Development Insurance, on how guarantee-backed structures strengthen credit quality and enable infrastructure instruments to meet investment-grade standards.
Discussions explored InfraCredit’s guarantee framework, including its credit assessment, due diligence, and post-issuance monitoring processes, and how these collectively strengthen investor confidence in infrastructure instruments. The session also reflected evolving approaches to risk-sharing, including the use of partial guarantees, enabling investors to take measured exposure while enhancing return potential.
From an investor perspective, the conversation reinforced the importance of predictable cashflows and strong credit protections as core conditions underpinning participation in guaranteed infrastructure instruments, with continued engagement playing a critical role in strengthening market alignment and sustaining the mobilisation of long-term domestic capital into infrastructure.
