Allegro Johann Sebastian Bach’s Oboe Concerto in F Major, BWV 1053r, is a multi-layered work whose thematic material originally served his 1726 Leipzig church cantatas (BWV 169 and BWV 49) using obbligato organ. Bach later transcribed and expanded these instrumental lines around 1738 into a virtuosic harpsichord concerto for the Leipzig Collegium Musicum. Because of its idiomatic writing, musicologists widely recognize this surviving keyboard concerto as a transcription of an earlier, lost instrumental work, which modern performers frequently reconstruct for the oboe or oboe d'amore.
