For more than 400 years, the Lost Colony of Roanoke has remained one of America's greatest historical mysteries. But was it really a disappearance without a trace?
In this episode, we follow the evidence—from the birth of Virginia Dare and John White's desperate return to England, to the Spanish Armada that delayed his return, and finally to the abandoned colony he discovered in 1590.
We examine what “CROATOAN” actually meant, the archaeological discoveries on Hatteras Island and in Bertie County, the theories surrounding the colonists' possible relocation, and the famous Dare Stones that turned out to be largely fraudulent.
Most importantly, we'll separate what we know from what we don't.
Because the truth about Roanoke may be stranger than the legend—and after more than four centuries, the Lost Colony still isn't completely found.
What do you think happened to the 117 colonists?
