A hands-on introduction to watershed delineation using QGIS and QSWAT+, from preparing your project to defining a watershed and stream network. Welcome to Part 1 of our complete hands-on training on Watershed Delineation and Hydrological Modeling Using QSWAT+, organized by The Leadership Labs Initiative. In this session, participants are introduced to the QSWAT+ environment and guided through the practical steps involved in preparing and delineating a watershed for hydrological modeling. Facilitated by Franklin Ijigade, this training is designed to help participants move beyond simply understanding watershed concepts to actually working through the process themselves using QGIS and QSWAT+. What You Will Learn Watershed Delineation: Learn how terrain and elevation data are used to define watershed boundaries, drainage networks, and subbasins. Preparing a QSWAT+ Project: Understand the QSWAT+ environment and how the different datasets and project components come together. Working with Spatial Inputs: Follow the process of loading and preparing the spatial datasets needed for watershed analysis. Defining Streams and Watersheds: Work through the practical steps involved in generating drainage networks and delineating the watershed. Understanding the Outputs: Learn how to inspect the resulting watershed, streams, outlets, and subbasins before proceeding to model development. This training is suitable for students, researchers, environmental professionals, water-resource practitioners, GIS users, and anyone interested in developing practical skills in watershed and hydrological modeling. At The Leadership Labs Initiative, our goal is to bridge the gap between knowing about a technical tool and being able to confidently use it.
