[Chorus] Farewell, my friend, farewell — don't grieve, This parting only leads us on, For every road that takes its leave Will bring us home before too long. Farewell, my friend, without a word, Don't let your brow grow dark with rain — To die is nothing new on earth, And living is no new again. [Verse 1] My dear, you're living in my chest, Your voice still walks these quiet halls, The road ahead, through east or west, Will turn and answer when it calls. Don't let your eyebrows bow with pain, Don't let the sorrow dim your eyes — The wind that leaves the orchard now Will bring the blossom back in time. [Verse 2] No hand, no word — but don't be sad, The night is deep, the stars are wide, The love we had, the love we had Still burns upon the riverside. If time should scatter what we knew Like leaves upon the autumn air, Remember this — I'll remember you, And meet you, waiting, over there. [Bridge] And if the dawn should never come To wake these silent fields of gold, Then know my heart, though going numb, Still holds you closer than I told. So hold my name the way you do — It's yours to keep, it's yours to keep. [Final Chorus] Farewell, my friend, farewell — don't grieve, This parting only leads us on, For every road that takes its leave Will bring us home before too long. Farewell, my friend, without a word, Don't let your brow grow dark with rain — To die is nothing new on earth, And living is no new again.
