The long-missing King Kong sequence from Sandy Duncan’s Jekyll and Hyde has finally been recovered! This footage comes from a 1986 WMSN-TV 47 syndication broadcast of The New Scooby-Doo Movies. So why has this footage been missing? The New Scooby-Doo Movies originally aired on CBS as hour-long episodes in the 1970s. When the series entered syndication in 1980, the episodes were split into two half-hour parts for local television. Some of these older syndicated versions preserved footage that was absent from the shorter versions that later became standard. Once those syndication prints stopped circulating, that additional material essentially disappeared with them. The versions ultimately released on DVD and streaming do not contain these scenes, meaning old off-air television recordings are now one of the only known ways to recover them. Here’s a playlist of all the missing scenes that have been found so far:    • Lost “The New Scooby-Doo Movies”1972 Segments   A huge thank you to VHSCollectorKyle, whose 1986 WMSN recording preserved this sequence and made its recovery possible. VHSCollectorKyle on YouTube:    / @grover1234   The search isn’t over. We are still looking for old syndicated/off-air recordings of the following episodes: • Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family / Wednesday Is Missing • A Good Medium Is Rare • The Phantom of the Country Music Hall If you have a VHS, Betamax, DVD transfer, digital recording, or any other off-air/syndication copy of one of these episodes, please reach out to me. Even if you aren’t sure whether your copy contains anything unusual, we would love to check it. Old television recordings may be the only surviving source for additional footage still missing from modern releases.
