Srijan Pal Singh walks through what a nuclear exchange actually does — and where India stands inside it. He starts with the arithmetic that makes the whole system "mutually assured destruction" in the first place: roughly 15 minutes of missile flight, detection in the air, a counter-launch before impact, and both sides gone inside 20 minutes of each other. From there he takes on the question that is usually asked as an accusation — whether India's No First Use policy is restraint or weakness. His answer runs on hardware, not sentiment. No First Use only holds if the retaliation is guaranteed, and that guarantee is India's nuclear triad — land, air and sea — with the sea leg being the one nobody can pre-empt, because INS Arihant is nuclear-powered, stays hidden, and can operate for months without refuelling or resupply. Singh also argues that No First Use is the safer policy for the world, not just the moral one, because it removes exactly the failure mode that nearly ended it in 1983: a satellite error read as a first strike. The second half moves outward — why potassium iodide and bunkers are not protection inside the blast radius, why a fire in Burma once sent smoke across the Indian Ocean to Africa, why a 2-km-deep shipping channel at Hormuz can choke the world's fuel and fertiliser, and why a weapons programme is only sovereign if the critical systems are under your own control.
