MJ Engineering: The Star SR-38 Type B is a subcontractor's ideal setup

MJ Engineering Limited had a sliding head lathe on their workshop's wishlist for years, and just six months ago the company took delivery of their first SR-38 Type B. The investment has significantly increased productivity and transformed how they approach new and existing work. Manufacturing complex components for industries including motorsport, oil & gas, optical, medical and automotive, Managing Director David Simpkin describes the SR-38 Type B as “the Rolls-Royce that does everything.” Parts that previously took four minutes to produce are now machined complete in just over one minute, with the SR model holding tight tolerances across thousands of components without operator intervention. What began as an investment for high-volume production has evolved into a subcontract engineer’s ideal setup: quick changeovers for small batches, extended lights-out running on larger jobs, and advanced capabilities to take on an even broader range of projects.
