The Animals - National Theatre Festival 2026

Wyke’s Performing Arts students have been selected by the National Theatre to take their production of The Animals to The Lowry, Manchester as part of the Connections Festival 2026. Written by Sean Buckley, The Animals is a powerful and moving exploration of agency and education within the youth custody system. Our production was chosen by acclaimed director Tom Bellerby, Artistic Director of Attic Theatre Company and Co Chair of York’s Pilot Theatre. Tom has supported the cast from their first performance at the Wyke Theatre, through their run at York Theatre Royal, and now onto this incredible national stage. The National Theatre’s Connections programme has championed young theatre makers for over 30 years, commissioning brand new plays and working with more than 250 youth companies and 6,000 young people annually. A huge congratulations to our cast and creative team. This is an extraordinary achievement and a moment of real pride for Wyke. The Wyke cast will take to the stage on Sunday, 28 June at 7pm.
