How do you keep data permanent when your apps are designed to be thrown away? That is the central tension of Kubernetes storage, and this lesson walks you through how to handle it.
We start with dependency chaos and the shift from VMs to lightweight containers, then look at pods as groups of containers that run in a shared context. You will learn how ConfigMaps separate configuration from your image for better portability, why Secrets exist for sensitive data like SSH keys and passwords (and why you never leave passwords sitting around in plain files), and how persistent storage keeps data alive beyond any single pod. We finish with storage resource quotas at the namespace level and a look at how orchestration shapes the future of storage.
In this lesson you will learn:
Disposable compute vs permanent data
ConfigMaps for configuration
Kubernetes Secrets for sensitive data
Persistent storage for stateful apps
Storage resource quotas per namespace
