The Indian stock market witnessed a sharp sell-off on Monday, September 28, with both the Sensex and Nifty falling around 1.4%. The Sensex dropped more than 1,000 points to hit a low of around 72,900, while the Nifty 50 fell over 300 points and slipped below the 23,000 mark. The fall wiped out nearly ₹6 lakh crore from the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies. All 30 Sensex stocks traded lower, while major sectors including banking, financial services, auto, FMCG, metals and real estate also witnessed heavy selling. Rising crude oil prices, concerns over the Iran-US conflict, higher US bond yields, rupee weakness and continued selling by foreign investors added to market pressure.
