After I posted photos and videos of my brazing last week, I got an interesting message from my buddy Adam Sklar (Sklar Bikes). He had seen that I silver brazed in my seat stay bridge. He said, "You don't wanna do that."
As I explain in this video, Adam has a ton of relevant experience on this. So even though I know that a lot of great bicycle framebuilders DO silver braze their seat stay bridges, I decided to go with his advice.
So in this video, I'm removing the seat stay bridge, cleaning up the stays, and then TIG welding it back in. I show this whole process, so you can see how to undo your mistakes—at least if your mistake is silver brazing in something you shouldn't have.
While I've got the TIG welder out, I also weld on the ISO brake tab that I fit up in a previous video, along with the brace tube to reinforce it. Just a few more steps now, particularly with the finish machining, and we'll be ready to paint this bike frame!
Here's the playlist of the whole Hardtail Mountain Bike Frame Build—I'll keep adding to it as we go: • Building a Hardtail MTB Frame, Part 1: Ini...
