Welcome back to High Use Alternative!
This is Part 2 of helping my sick chicken, Coco.
If you haven't seen the first part yet, watch it here first: • Coco is sick! We have to do something! Par... 🎬
So far, we have done a lot of upgrades to improve the environment in the enclosure. We installed custom ladders, built an elevated wood platform, and covered one-third of the ground with dry sand so the chickens can stay dry and take healthy sand baths.
Along with cleaning up the poop daily and providing fresh water and healthy food packed with high vitamins and minerals, there was still one major problem left to solve: the freezing night air and cold wind.
In this video, I am introducing a brand-new solution to keep them warm at night. We are transforming the 200€ chicken coop we originally bought on Amazon. While it has a built-in brood chamber, it is simply too small for the whole flock. Since three-quarters of the coop is walled with open wire grid, the cold wind blows right through it.
Watch me choose the practical alternative: I screwed together wood boards to build custom solid panels, closing off the open grids completely. Now, the flock has a fully enclosed, warm, and windproof space to sleep safely through the cold nights.
Here is what we are covering in this update:
• 🐓 The Checklist: Reviewing the sand bath, ladders, platform, and high-vitamin nutrition.
• ❌ The Wind Problem: Why the store-bought Amazon coop was too cold for the night.
• 🛠️ The DIY Insulation Hack: Screwing together custom wood panels to close the wire grid.
💬 Community Question:
How do you insulate or windproof your store-bought chicken coops for the winter? Let me know in the comment section below!
