It’s the stuff of legend. With one tank, in 15-minutes, Michael Wittmann destroyed 29 Allied vehicles and halted the British advance at Villers-Bocage. It was a gift to Nazi propagandists, who wasted no time in championing the achievements of their “tank ace”. For the British, it was an embarrassing blow to military prestige.
