The implementation of proposed UPI Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) charges has been postponed following requests from traders, offering temporary relief to businesses ahead of Dussehra and Diwali. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has indicated that the charges will be introduced after the festive season, with the exact implementation date yet to be announced. Under the proposed framework, an MDR of 0.4% would apply to eligible UPI transactions above ₹2,000, subject to a maximum charge of ₹300. Selected sectors, including railways, telecommunications, insurance, fuel and agricultural raw materials, have been proposed to receive a flat charge of ₹5 for eligible transactions. Person-to-person transfers and small everyday transactions are expected to remain free. What is MDR, who will pay these charges, and why is the change being proposed? Watch this LIVE explainer to understand the proposed UPI fee structure, the postponement and what it could mean for merchants and India's digital payments ecosystem. #UPI #UPICharges #MDR #NPCI #DigitalPayments #UPIUpdate #MerchantDiscountRate #IndiaPayments #DigitalIndia #UPINews #TheHansIndia Welcome to The Hans India YouTube channel, your trusted source for credible news, in-depth analysis, and impactful stories.
