Die historischen Mühlen sind für viele Besucher des Schwäbischen Waldes ein Geheimtipp. Mühlen gehören zu den ältesten technischen Geräten der Menschheit. Kaum jemand kann sich ihrer geheimnisvollen Faszination entziehen. Ihre oft idyllische, meist einsame Lage hat über Jahrhunderte die Phantasie beflügelt und manche Schauergeschichte um Müller und Mühle ranken lassen. Der Mühlenwanderweg verbindet auf einem 37 km langen Rundweg dreizehn der schönsten noch erhaltenen Mühlen. Wir wandern ein Teilstück von der Brandhofermühle bis zur Hummelgautsche. Dabei kommen wir noch an der Menzlesmühle, der Hundsberger Sägemühle und der Heinlesmühle vorbei. Auf und ab gautscht das Sägegatter in der Mühle auf der Hummelwiese - so kommt die Hummelgautsche zu ihrem Namen, wobei sich der Begriff "Hummel" auf die gemeindeeigenen Bullen (schwäbisch Hommel) bezog. Up and down the saw frame swings in the mill on the Hummelwiese meadow – that's how the Hummelgautsche got its name, with the term "Hummel" referring to the community's bulls (in Swabian dialect, Hommel). Gautsche is the Swabian word for swing.
