Fine Motor Skills & ADHD: Why Some Kids Struggle + 6 Reasons & Activities to Help
Fine motor skills are the small movements we use for everyday tasks like writing, drawing, using scissors, buttoning clothes, tying shoelaces, and handling small objects.
For some children with ADHD, fine motor skills can be more challenging. In this video, I explain 6 possible reasons why, including fatigue, attention and focus, motor coordination, and other factors that can affect how a child uses their hands.
I’ll also share simple, practical fine motor activities you can try with your child to help build strength, coordination, control, and confidence — without turning it into another stressful task.
Remember, every child is different. ADHD does not automatically mean a child has fine motor difficulties, and persistent difficulties may have other causes that are worth exploring with an appropriate professional.
Sometimes, what looks like “not trying” may actually be a skill that needs more support and practice.
