New York-New York Hotel & Casino is a lively, mid-range themed resort on the southern Las Vegas Strip at 3790 S Las Vegas Blvd (Tropicana Avenue intersection), across from MGM Grand and near Excalibur, Park MGM, and T-Mobile Arena. Opened January 3, 1997, and operated by MGM Resorts International (owned by Vici Properties), it recreates a compressed Manhattan skyline. The exterior features roughly one-third-scale replicas of iconic landmarks, including a 150-foot Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building (its tallest tower at 47 stories and 529 feet), Chrysler Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and other skyscrapers clustered together. Interiors evoke city streets with themed walkways, though some of the original heavy kitsch has been toned down. The hotel offers about 2,024 rooms and suites, many recently remodeled in a contemporary Soho loft style with modern furnishings, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Standard rooms are compact (around 350 sq ft) with king or two queen beds; larger premier and suite options provide more space and views. Its casino spans roughly 50,000–84,000 square feet and includes hundreds of slots, dozens of table games (blackjack, craps, roulette, etc.), high-limit areas, and a BetMGM sportsbook. Signature attractions center on the Big Apple Coaster, a roller coaster that weaves through the faux skyline at speeds up to about 67 mph with a 203-foot drop and heartline twist, plus the family-friendly Big Apple Arcade and Hershey’s Chocolate World. Entertainment includes the Cirque du Soleil production Mad Apple, lively bars such as Nine Fine Irishmen (Irish pub), Coyote Ugly, and the Bar at Times Square with dueling pianos. Dining ranges from Gallagher’s Steakhouse and Shake Shack to Nathan’s Famous hot dogs, Il Fornaio, and a variety of casual options and a food court. Amenities feature an outdoor pool with cabanas, a spa, and fitness center. Pedestrian bridges link it to neighboring properties for easy access. Overall, New York-New York delivers energetic, accessible Strip energy with strong visual theming, a unique roller coaster, solid gaming and entertainment, and convenient location—ideal for visitors seeking fun, value, and a playful take on the Big Apple without the full luxury price tag of newer resorts.
