What happens when a frontier AI model becomes the intelligence layer for an industrial robot?
In this experiment, I connect an OpenAI model with a UR5 robotic arm, gripper, camera, simulation, motion planning, and classical robot control. Instead of manually programming every robot sequence, the AI interprets the task, reasons about the environment, and coordinates the robot’s available capabilities.
The architecture combines:
Camera → Frontier AI Model → Planning/Reasoning → Robot Skills → Motion Planning → UR5 + Gripper
The goal is not to replace deterministic robot control. The goal is to explore whether frontier models can become a higher-level intelligence layer while proven robotics systems handle precise and safety-critical execution.
This could make industrial robotics easier to program, more flexible, and faster to deploy across different robots and applications.
This is an ongoing experiment and development project—not a finished production system.
