In Episode 5 of our 2006 NNI DVD series, "Native Nation Building," journalist Mary Kim Titla (San Carlos Apache) sits down with former NNI executive director Joan Timeche (Hopi) and Elsie Meeks (Oglala Lakota), former executive director of the First Nations Oweesta Corporation, to discuss how tribes support their citizens’ individual economic development by “Promoting Tribal Citizen Entrepreneurs.” The 30-minute conversation touches on topics like cultural considerations around entrepreneurship, land base complications that are unique to Tribal businesses, working with tribes to start businesses, community development financial institutions (CDFIs), and more. Produced by Ian Record. We are sharing this DVD series as part of NNI's 25th anniversary recognition and to mark the 20th anniversary of the series itself.
