In this volume Steinmetz combines street portraits with city scenes to comment on modern Southern culture. He revisits motifs from South Central – automobiles, highways and telephone booths – and adds new subjects like fast-food signs and suburban sprawl, all rendered in his meditative black-and-white style. The book offers a symbolic, lyrical look at “progress” through the everyday lives of Atlantans. Originally published by Nazraeli Press in 2009 (remastered 2020), Greater Atlanta showcases Steinmetz’s Southern sensibility.
