Watch how the woodworker cuts inlay banding segments on the band saw while the table is tilted at 45 degrees. A simple shop made bandsaw sled and a clamped stop block ensure the uniform length for each segment. In this lesson the woodworker demonstrates the process of gluing the wood segments and the outer veneers to create the wood inlay banding "log." Watch the step by step lessons for successful construction. Watch and learn how to create the glue up on a scrap sheet of plastic laminated material. This woodworking methods works best for gluing and clamping because the dried inlay banding log easily detaches from the plastic laminated surface. After the wood inlay banding log is created and the glue has dried, it is a simple matter of cleaning off any excess glue. Use a scraper to do so. A block plane or a jointer is then used to to flatten and straighten one of the "log's' edges. Cut the opposite edge off at the band saw. The individual wood inlay bandings are sliced at the bandsaw. Note: The bandsaw blade used in this video clip was a 3/8" 4 teeth per inch. It worked well. However, a 1/2" skip tooth blade with 3 - 4 tpi is now on the band saw for these operations.
