Getting Started in Esperanto (Komenci vs. Komenciĝi)

It usually has a direct object or a follow-up verb receiving the action of starting something. Mi komencis la lecionon. Mi komencis fari la lecionon. Komenciĝi is intransitive. It does not have a direct object after it. Use it when you're saying that something just happened to begin or happened to get started. La leciono komenciĝis tiam. Kiam la koncerto komenciĝos? Eki can be used as a substitute for either of those verbs to say something got started or is starting something else up. Starti is an intransitive verb that means a device started up or began to function. When we activate a device, we startigi it. We add the -ig to get it started. Restartigi means to restart something. When we hit the reset button on our Nintendo Gamecube, we restartigas the device and the device itself restartas.
