The people’s constitution versus the Adama Barrow’s constitution.

During a recent radio programme with AG Radio, members of the Coalition of Progressive Gambians (CoPG) expressed their views to the citizens of The Gambia regarding the upcoming reintroduction of the 2024 draft constitution, referred to as the Adama Barrow constitution. The CoPG members emphasized that the 2020 draft constitution should not be juxtaposed with the 2024 draft constitution, as the 2020 draft adheres to democratic principles and is considered the most advantageous for Gambia and its citizens. The 2020 draft, known as the people's constitution by CoPG, not only establishes strong institutions but also supports the president in enhancing their leadership effectiveness. In contrast, the 2024 draft, known as Adama Barrow's constitution, consolidates all power within the president's control. If this draft is approved, it has the potential to turn Adama Barrow into a complete dictator. Many Gambians view the 2024 draft as a slight to our collective intelligence. This draft focuses on Adama Barrow and his family, overlooking the needs of the populace. A considerable portion of Gambians perceives this controversial draft constitution as indicative of Adama Barrow's negative intentions for the Gambia. CoPG calls on all Gambians to either reject this draft or amend it to better reflect the 2020 draft.
