The Imperial Visit to Cowes Regatta - 1909 A visit to Cowes Week by the Russian Emperor Nicholas II, the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and the Imperial children. Music: From "Variations & Fugue on a theme by Henry Purcell by Benjamin Britten Cowes Week is one of the longest-running regular regattas in the world and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. The regatta was first started in 1826 and is held, in August, each year, on the Solent, the body of water that lies between the southern coast of England and the Isle of Wight and is hosted by Cowes, a seaport town on the Isle... Here I present an album of photographs, taken at the Regatta in 1909 when Emperor Nicholas II and the Imperial family were gusts at the event. The setting of the photographs is on board the Russian Imperial Yacht "Standart" on a day when the British King, Edward VII, together with Queen Alexandra, the Prince of Wales and distinguished guests were the guests of the Emperor . We see the British royals arriving on board, together with the official party to watch the races and enjoy the hospitality of their Russian hosts.....
