Pompeii: The City That Lived Before It Vanished | History for Sleep | Earth Serenity

Pompeii was not always a lost city. Before Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, Pompeii was a living Roman city filled with families, workers, merchants, children, markets, temples, baths, workshops, kitchens, and ordinary daily life. In this cinematic History for Sleep journey, we travel back to Pompeii before the eruption — when its streets were alive and Vesuvius was simply a familiar mountain on the horizon. Walk through the streets of ancient Pompeii and discover what everyday Roman life was like: homes and courtyards, bakeries and markets, food and wine, public fountains and baths, religion, education, family life, work, trade, wealth and poverty. We also explore the countryside surrounding Pompeii, the vineyards and agricultural world that supported the city, the wider Roman trade network, and the earthquakes that changed Pompeii before the final catastrophe. Then, slowly, the story moves toward AD 79. The mountain changes. The sky darkens. And the living city of Pompeii disappears beneath volcanic ash and debris. But Pompeii did not completely disappear. Its buried streets, homes, kitchens, shops, tools, paintings, inscriptions, and everyday objects would eventually allow the modern world to glimpse the people who once lived there. This is not only the story of how Pompeii was destroyed. It is the story of how Pompeii lived. Settle in, slow down, and let this quiet journey through ancient Rome accompany you into the night. 🌙 Welcome to Earth Serenity Stories — cinematic History for Sleep, where forgotten cities, ancient civilizations, mythology, and the hidden stories of our past become peaceful journeys through time.
