Pallavi is an example of Nritta or pure dance and literally means ‘blossoming’. It is not only pertinent to the dance but to the music as well. The alloying of music and dance unfolds in complexity as the dancer sketches multiple patterns in space, deciphering the music deftly in the stratified dimensions of taal (rhythm) and laya (speed). This pallavi is beautifully evinced by a mother-daughter duo who are none other than our Odissi guru, Smt. Gowri Chandran and her daughter, Dharmishta Chandran.
