5 Days in Maine | The Perfect Maine Road Trip | Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Camden & Portland

Five unforgettable days exploring one of America’s most beautiful states. We flew into Portland, Maine, rented a car, and set out on the ultimate road trip along scenic U.S. Route 1. Our first stop was Bar Harbor, where we spent three nights using it as our base for exploring Acadia National Park. Along the way we enjoyed fresh lobster rolls at Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster before checking into the Harborside Hotel just in time for sunset. We watched the tide reveal the famous Bar Island Land Bridge, wandered downtown Bar Harbor, and had an incredible dinner at Havana. The next two days were packed with adventure in Acadia National Park. We hiked the legendary Beehive Trail, explored Jordan Pond, visited Thunder Hole, and completed an incredible 11-mile route over Cadillac Mountain and Dorr Mountain via the South Ridge Trail. If you love trail running, hiking, or national parks, Acadia absolutely belongs on your bucket list. Between adventures we fueled up at Café This Way, grabbed amazing lobster rolls from Bar Harbor Deli, enjoyed tapas at Social House, and ended each evening watching the sunset over Frenchman Bay. On our drive back south we stopped at Bass Harbor Head Light, explored the charming seaside town of Camden, and continued to Portland, Maine, where we stayed at The Press Hotel. We wandered the historic Old Port, enjoyed one of our favorite meals at Via Vecchia, and finished the trip with an early morning run around Back Cove before visiting the iconic Portland Head Light. This trip was the perfect combination of hiking, trail running, coastal scenery, incredible seafood, charming New England towns, and unforgettable adventures. Maine completely exceeded our expectations, and it’s a place we’ll definitely return to.
