As the Soo Locks close and the ice thickens, the ships come in for rest, repairs, paint, and inspections. Nine ships came in for layup, Burns Harbor, Frontenac, Mesbie Miner, Tug Albert with Barge Margarate, Joseph L. Block, Stewart J. Cort, Paul R. Tregurtha, and James R. Barker.
