The Deep-Space Illusion Hiding in Plain Sight

Every deep-space image captured by Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope is a museum of ghosts. Because dark energy accelerates the metric expansion of space, the void between cosmic structures is expanding faster than the speed of light. Right now, roughly 94% of the galaxies visible in our night sky have already slipped across the cosmic event horizon. Even if you boarded a spacecraft traveling at the speed of light today, you could never reach them.
