Meet San Francisco’s Neighborhood Ambassadors | Community Safety in the Fillmore

Who are the Neighborhood Ambassadors looking out for San Francisco’s Fillmore neighborhood? In this interview, I meet members of San Francisco’s Neighborhood Ambassador program to learn about their work, their connection to the community, and how they help support local merchants and residents. Many of the ambassadors are retired police officers who now serve their community in a different capacity. Their work includes engaging with local businesses, checking on vulnerable individuals, observing street activity, and communicating with police when situations require additional assistance. As they explain, the role is about more than public safety. It’s about being approachable, building relationships, and making sure residents and merchants have people they can turn to. We also hear their perspectives on homelessness, community engagement, and how the Fillmore neighborhood has changed over the years. Watch to get to know the people behind the uniforms and learn more about their work on the streets of San Francisco.
