Drunk Immigrant Driver Gets Stopped by ICE Checkpoint

October 4, 2026, 12:56 a.m., Garden City, Georgia. A Garden City police officer walks a driver out of a white sedan in a strip-mall lot and runs the entire stop in Spanish, because the driver speaks no English. "How much have you had tonight?" "A little." "How much is a little?" "Four." "Four what?" "Four beers." The eye test. Nine heel-to-toe steps: he takes nine out and three back. "You told me three." The one-leg stand. Then one more question. "How many did you drink?" "Four." "You're lying to me." "...It was five." Hands out like an airplane, hands behind the back. "You're going to be arrested. You can't drive drunk here." Nobody on that sidewalk asks where he's from. Under Georgia law, the jail has to. WHAT THE RECORD SAYS According to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office booking record, the driver was booked on October 4, 2026 by the Garden City Police Department on five charges: fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer (charged as a felony and not depicted in this video; the recording begins at the driver's window), DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol), failure to maintain lane, knowingly driving on a suspended, canceled or revoked registration, and driving without a valid license. WHAT GEORGIA LAW DOES NEXT Georgia issues a driver's license only to applicants who prove lawful presence in the United States (O.C.G.A. 40-5-21.1; 50-36-1). Under O.C.G.A. 42-4-14, as rewritten by House Bill 1105 (the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, effective July 1, 2024), a county jail must make a reasonable effort to determine the nationality of every person it books within 48 hours.
