An adaption from the Tao Te Ching.
This is slightly different version with slight animated clouds.
Lyrics:
[Intro]
The Way that can be spoken is a path that fades away,
A name that can be named will never last beyond today.
From nameless, silent Absence, earth and heaven start to bloom,
While Presence gives ten thousand things their shape inside the room.
[Verse 1]
You look but cannot see it, though it lingers in the light,
You listen, but it whispers like a shadow in the night.
Though thirty spokes are joined to form the wheel upon the cart,
The emptiness inside is where the motion gets its start.
We shape the clay to form a jar to hold the morning dew,
Yet Absence gives it value for the work it's meant to do.
[Verse 2]
Stand tall upon your tiptoes, and you’ll stagger till you fall,
And rush ahead with giant strides to get nowhere at all.
Sharpen up a blade too fine, its edge will chip away,
Fill your hall with gold and jade, and danger comes to stay.
When people lose the greater Way, the rules begin to grow,
Yet dwelling in non-striving brings the peace we ought to know.
[Chorus]
For in yielding to the current, you are whole and made complete,
By bending with the heavy wind, you never meet defeat.
The softest wave of water wears away the hardest stone,
And returning to the quiet root brings everybody home.
[Verse 3]
To study brings addition every day to what you hold,
To walk the Way subtraction as the mysteries unfold.
Less and less until at last non-action fills the space,
And nothing is left undone beneath the stillness of this place.
Hold fast to simple kindness and humility so deep—
These three enduring treasures are the ones you ought to keep.
[Chorus]
For in yielding to the current, you are whole and made complete,
By bending with the heavy wind, you never meet defeat.
The softest wave of water wears away the hardest stone,
And returning to the quiet root brings everybody home.
[Bridge]
Close the doors of sight and sound and let the tangles fade,
Soften all the glaring light and rest within the shade.
Know the strong and masculine, but hold the female grace,
Be the river in the valley with a newborn child's face.
[Chorus]
For in yielding to the current, you are whole and made complete,
By bending with the heavy wind, you never meet defeat.
The softest wave of water wears away the hardest stone,
And returning to the quiet root brings everybody home.
[Outro]
The Old Master rides his ox out through the western pass,
Leaving five thousand words behind like dew upon the grass.
Dissolving in the mystery, no trace is left behind,
Vanishing into the flow, beyond the realm of mind.
